Hey Sara,
Here are a few photos from my trip to Maine.
This is a photo of the tallest corn I've ever seen. It wasn't far from where we stayed in upstate New York years ago.
Here is our group. Left to right, Larry, me, Paul, Tom, Carl, Mark and Dave. Mark is 52, Tom is 46, everyone else is 48.
Two vehicles, four canoes and more than a thousand pounds of gear made its way from Tom's house in Boston to the southern end of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Maine. This shot is about 5 miles before we put in.
After we put in we needed to walk several hundred yards down a stream with all our gear before getting to the first lake.
We were surrounded by the natural beauty of the wilderness including pristine lakes, rugged shoreline and beautiful sunsets.
This is the first of nine moose that we saw. She would put her head down in the river for up to a minute while eating. Her baby was watching in the marsh nearby.
We also saw six bald eagles, including one diving hard into the river to clutch a fish then soar back up to its nest where babies were waiting. (No photos yet, but Dave had a great camera with a nice lens.)
We paddled lakes and rapids and caught brook trout on fly rods. Occasionally we had to navigate over obstacles like the remains of this old bridge.
We were up early every day, ate breakfast and back on the water by 8am. By the time we were done we were all pretty tired.
It took 12 hours to drive back to Boston and another 15 hours to get home. I drove straight through with Larry so I could make it to my 30th HS reunion.
